![]() With Christmas and Halloween on my brain while driving home (where I tend to come up with new song ideas because my friends inspire me) I started to think about “Ghost of Christmas Past” in the context of an ex-boyfriend, and I thought that could be a fascinating idea. Keep in mind this was in October, close to Halloween. One of my friends in the group Paisley Fields had brought in a Christmas song. Each person would play a song and the rest would provide feedback. What would you consider to be the main inspiration behind the song?īrina: before covid hit, I regularly met with a group of songwriters every Monday night. After sitting on it for a year, I thought it would be the perfect song to release between my most recent music video and the time it would take to record my EP, and Mike and Oliva were all about it. Olivia and Mike liked it so we ran with it. It was around Halloween, and as we were pitching song ideas, I brought up the title “Ghost of Christmas Past” as a play on the classic Charles Dickens’ story. It was actually the first time I’d ever met Olivia, let alone written with her. How did the idea to create the song come together?īrina: I had a write scheduled with my producer Mike Anderson and another local Nashville artist/songwriter Olivia Frances.
